March 10, 2009

I just got back from four days of great knitting and knitters at Stitches West Convention & Market in Santa Clara, California. On opening day, I shared the stage with four other designers: Elise Duvecot, Lucy Neatby, Jane Slicer-Smith and Rick Mondragon. We expressed our views on intarsia to a large and enthusiastic audience of knitters from all across the country, and they flocked to all the colorwork classes.

Intarsia is still one of my favorite techniques, and I’m happy it’s coming back strong. My schedule at the market was full. I taught three classes; intarsia, edging and flowers and one dealing with embroidery on knitting. They were all fun for me and the students.

I also had five book signings in between and had just enough time to do some speed shopping at the market and to chat with many knitters and old friends. The crew from Knitters Magazine treated me wonderfully, and it was good to see that knitting is stronger than ever.

Now that I’m back in New York, I’ve got to work on my new book for next fall. It’s going to be a mad rush but I am excited about choosing yarns for all the designs that I managed to sketch during my trip.

I got to see my family in Carmel and Pleasanton. My Uncle Syl made me a batch of Cioppino (fish stew) that was great. (Thanks Uncle Syl and Aunt Jackie). I enjoyed a short visit with my cousin Mary and her family in beautiful Carmel. I met and loved their new King Charles Spaniel puppy named Olive, and I got to see Mary’s new fantastic furniture and antique shop called Mix, and if you’re ever in Carmel, you’ve got to see it.

Once again, thanks for all of your support, Knitting On Top Of the World is selling like gangbusters. Talk to you soon.

P.S. Got to see my very favorite Knitter/Attorney/Friend, her sister and her boyfriend (you know who you are) in Santa Clara.
