Rocky Mountain High…Colorado. John Denver sang it…I experienced it. Had a wonderful time out in Vail/Edwards Colorado with our son Ken. He took us sightseeing, made a gut-busting barbeque for us and a bunch of friends and introduced us to great restaurants (check out my fabulous lamb dinner below from Juniper Restaurant in Edwards, CO).

We got to stay at the beautiful Lodge & Spa at Cordillera, which has luxurious rooms and facilities and unparalleled views of breathtaking mountains and terrain. It sits over 8,000 feet above sea level and was worth the climb. Driving up to the hotel we passed an elk, a mule deer and a fox. This was the view from our room:

Colorado is amazingly beautiful, and there was still snow on the mountaintops in perfect 80-degree temperatures. We traveled through the Rockies and on to the magnificent Colorado River. We also got to see some incredible homes in awesome locations. Ken, who is a master tilesetter, has done some artistic work in many of them. That's Ken, me and the Colorado River below.

I also got to teach, sign books, and meet lots of lovely Colorado knitters at three great yarn shops. First stop was in Denver at Shower of Flowers Yarn Shop, owned by the gracious and knowledgeable Sharon Sturm. It’s a big, beautiful shop and Sharon had a generous, delicious buffet for us all. She also gave me her fabulous chicken salad recipe. I signed many books, shared some knitting tips and was very happy to see my dear friend Von from How-To-Books.

More about my trip next week!
