Here I am again in “book deadline heaven”, and I’m loving it!

March 10, 2009

I just got back from four days of great knitting and knitters at Stitches West Convention & Market in Santa Clara, California. On opening day, I shared the stage with four other designers: Elise Duvecot, Lucy Neatby, Jane Slicer-Smith and Rick Mondragon. We expressed our views on intarsia to a large and enthusiastic audience of knitters from all across the country, and they flocked to all the colorwork classes.

Happy Knitting New Year!  The Steelers have won the Super Bowl, which makes my family back in West Virginia very happy (my husband is still sulking over the collapse of the Giants).

OK…Back surgery ain’t for sissies…but I am doing well…taking physical therapy and looking forward to swing dancing this summer (well, slow swing dancing anyway).

Hi everybody,

Sorry I haven’t written in awhile, but on October 27th, I had some major and long overdue back surgery. The operation went well, and I am home after a week in the hospital. I’m starting on a slow recuperation, and worst of all, I can’t even knit. By the way, all the doctors in the hospital (including mine) were incredibly handsome. I thought I was watching an episode of General Hospital.

Oh my goodness, what a fun and exciting month. I am all a-twitter that Barnes & Noble is releasing an exclusive, “A 2009 Nicky Epstein Engagement Calendar” featuring 26 of some of my most popular knit, crochet and felted flower designs with instructions. They did a beautiful job putting it together and it’s actually an engagement calendar and knitting book all in one.

Back to work!

On the road again!

This time to the beautiful state of Maryland for a book signing and demonstration. The event took place at the A.C. Moore in Glen Burney (between Baltimore and Annapolis), and I got to meet a lot of nice knitters. I had a lovely surprise as Judi Kauffman, a friend and freelance writer/author (By The Batch), showed up for the event. A.C. Moore is great, and I could have spent the whole night there.

I was hoping things would slow down for me in August, but so far it hasn’t quite worked out that way. Had an all too short visit from my Aussie friend, Jenny King. I met Jenny on my Australia trip last year and we have become good pals. Jenny is a very talented crochet designer and shop owner (in Kuluin, Queensland, Aus) and is a wonderful person who is also fun to be with. We shopped, wined, dined, laughed and talked shop.

We’re in the dog days of summer, and the heat and humidity is rising here in New York City. But…my heart is pounding with excitement because I just got a color galley of my new book Knitting On Top Of The World (October 2008), and I have to say it is just beautiful—I can’t wait for you all to see it! Below is a sneak preview of the full jacket cover.
